Virtual Reality (VR) and CBT

Virtual Reality Therapy:

We are excited to offer Virtual Reality Therapy, a state-of-the-art technology that has been shown to be beneficial in OCD, anxiety disorders, and treatment of phobias.  In Virtual Reality Therapy, your clinician will gradually introduce you to fearful situations in a safe ‘virtual’ setting, using software and a headset to manage your treatment.

Evidence has shown that virtual reality therapy, in combination with Cognitive Behavior Therapy, is an effective and quicker-acting form of therapy that can help you to become less fearful and anxious in a shorter period of time so you can live a meaningful life.

How does it Work?

We use the Psious Virtual Reality System, which provides 3D graphic technology to introduce realistic sensory, interactive experiences to each client. By using the Psious VR headset, you will be immersed in a customized virtual scenario that addresses your specific fears and anxieties. The virtual technology will be used to repeatedly expose you to ‘triggers’, while seated safely at home or in our offices. The goal is to minimize the threat you feel and tolerate your anxiety to manageable levels so you can do all that you want to do with your life.

The headset also features a method of biofeedback that allows the therapist to measure your physical responses to situations, including temperature and eye movements. This ensures that the therapist can monitor the pace and intensity of the experience to be most appropriate for your progress.

What do I need to participate in Virtual Reality Therapy?

You only need to download a free app from Psious, and to purchase an inexpensive pair of specially made goggles (for as little as $10) to allow you to utilize the software. The program can be used from the comfort of your own home, as well as in our clinic offices.

Technology for Children and Adults

The device can be used by children, teens and adults. Using virtual reality technology is an excellent way to help motivate children and teens to participate more fully in therapy.
